Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7 ESV
What’s going to get you where you need to go? Do you ever ask yourself that? Think about it. Some people trust in cars and some in bicycles, some in trains and some in airplanes, but I trust in the name of the Lord our God.
All forms of transportation move our bodies, except in the ways that they need to move. We’ve become experts in maximizing laziness. Using things other than our feet to move our bodies has turned us into a nation of obese, anxious and impatient people. The one thing we need to do is slow down and take long walks. I think 90% of our problems would resolve themselves if we did just that.
Think about it. We make up stuff to worry and obsess about. And it’s all meaningless in the grand scheme of things. None of this will matter when you’re dead. You won’t care about the latest trends when you’re in Heaven. All the achievements we strive for will be forgotten a generation from now. Will anyone remember us? Probably not. Our pride dies with us.
So what truly matters? The Lord and His will. That’s it.
Life is worship. Humans are wired to worship. We find peace, comfort and satisfaction in what we worship. Some people worship wealth. Some worship worldly pleasures like food, drugs and alcohol, and sex. Some worship their own pride and success. We’ve become the “hey look at me” generation with all our social media addictions. This is all nonsense.
There is only one who truly deserves our worship and adoration, and that is our Creator God. Did you create yourself? Did you put the sun and stars in their place? Do you paint the sunset and make the waves crash? Do you bring rain, snow and wind? Of course not, you’re a frail, little human being. And yet, God loves you. He is gracious and kind.
So today, I encourage you, stop rushing around pursuing things that don’t matter. They won’t fill your soul with what it needs. In stillness and silence, listen for the voice of the Lord. He’s calling you home. He’s calling you to live again. Become alive again. To live is Christ and to die is gain. All this insanity will soon be over. Don’t let it distract you from what truly matters. Loving God with your obedience to His voice.
Children of God, make your Father in Heaven proud by being humble and obedient. Then it will go well for you.
Father in Heaven, give us patience and wisdom in a world gone mad. Let us be salt and light in a dead and dying world. Put words of encouragement on our tongues and let love forever be the lamp that fills our hearts. Amen.
How lovely are Your dwelling places, Lord of armies! My soul longed and even yearned for the courtyards of the Lord; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
