Entering His Rest

Christ is the fulfillment of Moses’ Teachings so that everyone who has faith may receive God’s approval.

Romans 10:4 GW

For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

Hebrews 4:10 NLT

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 NLT

There are two yokes of slavery that need to be broken for us to enter into the rest that God freely provides us by His grace, maybe three. Slavery to sin, slavery to the flesh, and slavery to religious works.

We must understand that we are only made right with God because of what Jesus did for us. He said, “It is finished.”

There is nothing that we need to do to be made right with God. We simply believe that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and we are made whole. Believing in God, having faith, is a gift from God. We do not earn it, we do not strive to achieve it, we simply receive it. Faith saves us and it is a gift from God by His grace.

Why do we have such a hard time believing that? Why do we start so well and then get lost in works and religiosity? It’s an evil spirit that deceives us into thinking we must work to maintain our salvation. It’s a religious spirit. It’s insidious. It seems like a good idea but it separates us from the very life of God.

We work from rest. We cease striving in our flesh to please God. We realize God is already pleased, if we simply believe in His Son. Don’t miss this: if you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you are made right with God. Nothing more, nothing less.

I preach a lot on obedience, but obedience is a testimony, or witness, of our transformation from rebels to lovers of God. If we love God, we will obey Him. We don’t obey to prove we love God. We don’t obey to earn God’s favor. We have nothing to prove. God loves us unconditionally. We receive that love freely, in spite of our sinful nature, and it heals us, it sets us free from every bondage and weight.

Love is the answer. Simply receive God’s love and extend it to others. Free from judgment. Free from expectation. We don’t have to work ourselves up to do it. We rest in it.

Evangelism and ministry aren’t a burden. They come naturally from the overflow of our hearts to those around us. Be so filled up with the love and peace of God that you cannot help but share the Good News of God’s grace for freedom through Jesus Christ. Let love flow freely. Judge no one before their time. Forgive and keep on forgiving, just as you were forgiven in Christ Jesus.

Let us meditate on the good thing that Jesus has done for us. He has freed us from the Law. We are under grace now. His yoke is easy. Walk with Him. His burden is light. Talk with Him. Talk about Him. Share what He has done in your life with others. It’s not a duty or obligation. It’s a natural expression of your joy and gratitude.

Walk by the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Walk by the Spirit and you are not under the Law. There’s no more rules to memorize and keep. Only one law, the law of love. Love is a place of peace and rest. If you are feeling anxious, that’s a sign that you are not resting in God’s love.

First, get right with God. Then, go share the Good News. Not the other way round. We don’t share the Gospel to get God’s love. We share it because we have His love in us already. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Enter into His rest by faith that Jesus died and rose again to free you from the power and penalty of sin. Stay there. Remain in the Sabbath rest of God. A day with the Lord is as a thousand years. Today is the millennial reign of Christ. Remain in Him today and you’ll get a thousand years of work done, without even trying. Remain in love. Amen.

Father in Heaven, show me how much You love me today. Let fear and striving cease. Let me be filled up completely with Your Holy Spirit. Let Your love overwhelm me, overtake me, remake me into Your image and likeness. I am a new creation in Christ. Let me be Your image bearer today in what I do and what I say. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Isaiah 26:3 ESV
