Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
John 13:3-5 ESV
The Lord of all Creation saw an unmet need, and instead of ordering someone to do it, He did it Himself.
That’s the example that Jesus gives us. A heart of humble service to those He loves.
How many of us are willing to put aside our exterior identity and get the job done? Let’s put aside our titles, our reputations, our roles, who we want people to think we are, and do what Jesus did. What if we obeyed God? What do you think would happen?
We’re not that different from Jesus. While He’s the only begotten Son of God, we’re born again of the same Spirit that raised Him from the dead. He was always God. We got grafted into the Body by faith.
We’re going back to God. Our future is secure, as believers, that God will welcome us home, whenever that day comes.
We’re on assignment. Our time here on Earth is not meant to be spent pursuing earthly pleasures for ourselves. We were born to serve God, to honor Him with our lives, to bring glory to God.
What’s it going to take for us to break free of our idolatry and to actually live our lives in Christ for Jesus? God loves us and saves us from our sin. Now what? Do we appreciate what He did for us? Are we willing to obey our Lord? Or are we disobedient, selfish and immature children?
It’s time to wake up and grow up. Time is short. People are suffering. Jesus is the hope of nations. We must be about our Father’s business. Don’t be too proud or too important or too busy to go and make disciples. That’s the core mission of every Christian. How are we doing at equipping the saints to go and make disciples?
It’s time, people. It’s time. We must all answer the call and follow Him. Let’s remove the stains of worldliness from one another. Be holy as your Father in Heaven is holy.
Lord, forgive us for our idolatry and religiosity. Forgive us for building our own kingdoms instead of advancing Your Kingdom. Forgive us for our disobedience to love others as ourselves. Forgive us for not making disciples. Give us the wisdom, the knowledge, the heart and the obedience required to do what really pleases You, Lord. Let us take back what the enemy stole, one soul at a time. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”
John 13:12-17 ESV
