Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 Corinthians 10:12-14 ESV
Be on guard. Take heed. Pay attention. Stay awake. Keep alert. Watch out for the enemy of your soul wants to take you out through your lack of self control by getting you to give in to temptation.
You don’t have to give in. You choose to.
Therefore, flee from idolatry. Don’t make yourself a target. Stay away from desiring anything more than the Presence of God.
How do you abide in Christ? You obey His commandments. You love God above all other things. You love others with a pure heart. You put God first and you put others before yourself. God is love. Love always and at all times. That’s where God abides.
Judgment, pride, envy, jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, greed, gluttony, lust, anger and divisiveness. Those are not the things that are produced by the Spirit of God. Stay away from these things and those who practice them habitually. Misery loves company and sinful people want to drag you down into their sin. Don’t be fooled. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.
We need to live holy lives in the midst of an unholy world. People are falling away from the faith left and right. Yet, God is being glorified more than ever in His faithful followers.
Don’t follow the crowd. Follow Jesus.
Be careful who you hang around with and what media and literature you consume. If you continuously consume lies, sooner or later you’ll believe them and then you become the devil’s playground.
God is more than capable of speaking to you directly. Pay attention to what He says and act on it. He won’t steer you wrong. People, with good intentions and bad, will. Nobody knows better what your next step of faith is than God. So ask Him yourself.
God is good and God is God. Learn to walk with God. If we all did that, we would be living in Paradise.
