If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 AMP
If you want to make good decisions, you’re going to need wisdom. Wisdom comes from knowledge, experience and spending time with God. God is the source of all truth so if you need a shortcut to becoming wise just ask God what to do.
God is not offended if you constantly ask Him for advice and counsel. He’s extremely patient, generous and kind. Everything He has, He gives it away freely. He’s not worried about it, because He’s secure in who He is. He’s God. Everything belongs to Him and no one can take it from Him. Ask and you will receive.
Acquiring wisdom is better than acquiring gold and silver. Earthly treasures and pleasures pass away. Eventually they will all prove to be worthless. The only thing that truly matters are relationships. First, your relationship with God. Then, your relationships with everyone else. Use wisdom in your relationships.
God is a master of restoring relationships. He can even woo people that are His enemies into loving Him. How does He do it? He kills them with kindness.
I believe that if we showed kindness, love and respect to others, most of society’s problems would resolve themselves. A lack of kindness, a lack of love and a lack of respect are what cause relationships to disintegrate and people to become bitter. Bitter people bear bitter fruit.
The secret to a happy life is to walk with God. There’s no substitute for abiding in Christ. Peace, love, joy and all the other good stuff come from knowing God intimately and having a constant prayer life where you commune and fellowship with God all the time.
If you want wisdom, ask for it. Whenever you need it. It’s not a one and done. We need God’s input on every area of our life all the time. He’s the One with the plan. We’re the ones that follow Him.
God’s doing a good work right now. His Church is learning what it means to follow Him instead of their own imaginations. Surrender to God. It’s the best thing you could ever do. Stay surrendered. His will is perfect. Our execution is spotty at best. Don’t worry about it. Just keep confessing your sins and praying for wisdom. Being sanctified is a work in progress.
Lord, give us wisdom to make the decisions that please You and not our flesh. Amen.
But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].
