“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
Luke 6:46-49 NLT
If we don’t obey the Lord, what are we? Foolish and disobedient. In a word, unrepentant sinners.
The firm foundation of a life in Christ is obeying His Word. Read the red letters and put them into practice. It doesn’t matter how much you know, what matters is how obedient you are. It doesn’t matter how many people you know, what matters is how obedient you are. It doesn’t matter how much you own, what matters is how obedient you are.
Obedience is better than sacrifice. Don’t you know you were purchased for a price?
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
This life is not about us. We’re not the god of our own existence. We’re not meant to worship ourselves and our stuff. That’s idolatry. Worship God with your bodies and your lives. Get back on track before you wind up a heap of ruins.
Good children obey their parents. God is our Father. Obey your Heavenly Father’s instructions. Then, it will go well for you in this life and the next.
Follow Jesus. Pick up your cross. Crucify the deeds of the flesh. Lose “your” life and find His. This is the way forward. It is written.
Father, forgive us for our sins. Forgive us for making our own plans instead of seeking You and Your Kingdom above all other things. Let us walk with You. Let us talk with You. Counsel and guide us day by day by the gentle leading of Your Spirit. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear what You are saying to Your Beloved, the Church You bought with Your blood. In Christ we pray. Amen.
