And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
Matthew 10:7-8 NKJV
There’s some Good News I felt led to share with you today. God is our Healer and He has commissioned His followers to continue the ministry of Jesus by having us heal the sick. You can pray for people to be healed and God will answer that prayer!
Sickness drains us of our vital energy. It interrupts the flow of life. Sickness isn’t only in the physical realm. We can be emotionally, psychologically and spiritually sick. Being sick just means there’s a lack of wholeness, being unwell in some dimension of our being.
The gift of miraculous healing is alive and well today. It operates best in an atmosphere that is full of faith. Unbelief is a powerful inhibitor of the work of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t violate our free will, and if we choose to doubt that God can do something, He will let us continue in our unbelief rather than reward our lack of faith.
If you want to be effective in praying for people and seeing them healed, there’s a couple things to keep in mind. First, compassion is our motivation, not pride. We seek to bring glory to God as we lovingly serve others and ask God for what’s best for them. Second, ask God what He wants to do instead of assuming. When we think we know God’s general will but don’t discern His specific will in a situation, we get ourselves into trouble and disappoint others.
One other thought to keep in mind, the how and when of healing are in God’s hands, not ours. Sometimes it’s instantaneous, other times it’s a process. What I’ve learned is to ask God what the root of the issue is and deal with that through listening prayer. What do I mean by that?
Say someone has an issue. Pray and ask God to reveal to them what the root is. Bonus, if you’re prophetic He will often tell you as well for confirmation. Ask God how it got there. Ask Him to speak to the person. It’s usually trauma, sin or unforgiveness. Then, take the appropriate action. Pray for healing, lead them in repentance or have them forgive whoever offended them. It’s amazing how God knows what we need before we ask. We simply need to ask Him and obey Him.
Lord, what is Your will in this matter? How do you want us to partner with You in what You’re doing?
This is just a taste of how Holy Spirit led ministry can heal others and set them free from a lifetime of anguish. I’ve seen it in action. I’ve experienced it. I’ve taught others how to do it. It works. If you’d like to dive deeper to be fully equipped, I recommend two particular resources:

May the Lord bless you and use you in healing the sick.
Equip us, O God, to do what Jesus and His disciples do. Amen.
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.
