Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Romans 5:1 NLT
Today, I want to do something a little different. I want to give away my secrets. I’ve realized I can only do so much by myself. It would be better for me to equip you in Holy Spirit led daily devotional writing so that we can flood the Internet with Holy Spirit inspired thoughts every day. Sound like a plan?
So here is how my day goes. I wake up early, earlier than I would care for. I can’t sleep but it’s still cold and dark outside. I lay in bed with my super snuggly little dog and commune with God.
Sometimes I ask questions. Sometimes I reflect on the day prior. I mull around in my thoughts for awhile, applying the truth of Scripture to them to weed out the lies from truth. Then, I listen quietly. I still my mind until it is like a calm lake. Any wind of the Spirit will cause ripples. And we wait for God to speak.
Whatever God speaks, we know it is important to us in that moment. Otherwise, why would He say it? God’s truth in the moment is more important and life giving than our daily bread. When God speaks, He gives clarity, peace and joy. Love and reconciliation are His motives. He wants to fill your heart and mind with the truth in love. You simply have to position yourself to receive from God. Be silent before the Lord.
This morning, I heard, “Romans 5.”
That’s all He said. So to the Bible app on my phone I go. It’s still too dark to look at a phone in the dark (it burns my eyes) so I have my app read the chapter to me. If I was in a chair I would have fallen out, thankfully I was still in bed. Romans 5 eloquently says what I attempted to write about yesterday in my own words.
That’s why the Bible is our best source of spiritual food. How many humans has the information you’re consuming passed through? For each one, the message can get adulterated. Go straight to the source. The Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible are the best and most reliable teachers in existence.
As in all things, let the Holy Spirit guide you. That’s what it means to be a son of God. Jesus is the Son. He lived in perfect unity with the Father, perfect obedience to His Father’s will. We’re grafted into the Body of Christ by faith. Our obedience to the will of the Head of the Body, the Lord Jesus Christ, determines our faithfulness. We’re always growing and improving, hopefully, so relax, you don’t have to be perfect. Jesus already took care of that.
The purpose of writing a daily devotional is to capture what God is inspiring you with in written form for others to read later. If it inspired you, it will inspire others who are hungry and thirsty for manna.
God speaks to us in ways that we understand. He knows our weakness and limited capacity. He’s not judging us for being simple. We’re all like stupid animals compared to Him. It’s okay. He loves us just like I love my dog who I can barely communicate with. The important thing is getting the message across in your own words.
Romans 5 was today’s reading, as given by the Holy Spirit. Read it for yourself. See what jumps out at you. Write it down and share it with others. WordPress is a great free blogging tool.
After capturing my train of thought on the Scriptures or whatever God says, I always try to wrap up neatly with a prayer that asks God to do something to help us.
For example, Father God, help us to hear the Holy Spirit more clearly everyday. Give us wisdom and truth to live each day well, seeking only to bring glory to Your Name. Amen.
I hope I’ve inspired and encouraged you to connect with God and share what He gives you with others. I find my days go much better when I start my day that way.
May the Lord bless you and speak to you and through you, to the glory of God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Father, speak to Your children individually each day and lead us and guide by Your Spirit always. Amen.
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
