The God Who Sends

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

John 20:21‭-‬22 NLT

How was Jesus sent? As a visible representative of the Father. Baptized in water and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus trained his disciples, but He told them to wait in Jerusalem until they received power.

And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ You are witnesses of all these things.

“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

Luke 24:46‭-‬49 NLT

From that moment on, the Day of Pentecost so many centuries ago, the message has gone forth with power.

And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.

Mark 16:20 NLT

How was Jesus sent? In power, love and a sound mind – He only spoke the truth. He healed the sick and cast out demons. How is He sending us? As He was sent.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

II Timothy 1:7 NKJV

Have you received the Holy Spirit? He is sending you as His ambassador into the lost and broken world to preach the Gospel and bind up the brokenhearted.

Never be ashamed of the Gospel. It has the power to save. Be faithful in planting seeds and watering them. God is the one who makes them grow.

Lord, lead us and guide us to the ones You want us to minister to. Confirm Your word with power. Amen.

“Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.”

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth. And it is he who says, “I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations. You will open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons.

“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols. Everything I prophesied has come true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future before it happens.”

Isaiah 42:1‭-‬9 NLT
