“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Matthew 6:33 NLT
There are two ways to live life in this world. You can live for God or you can live for something else. The something else can be power, possessions, money, fame, pleasure or any other self serving motive. In the end, living for self isolates you from the life of God and the fellowship of the saints.
Living for God is the only way to experience the Kingdom of God. Don’t misread that and think that something other than faith is required to be saved. However, without repentance there is no salvation. Recognizing that Jesus Christ is Lord should radically change a person’s life. It’s a paradigm shift. No longer are you lost and alone in this world, struggling to find meaning, love and purpose.
God is our source and provider. Now work out your salvation with fear and trembling. What does that mean? Fear the Lord. Understand that He knows best and wants the best for you and for everyone else.
We don’t work to become righteous enough to be loved by God. Quite the opposite. First, we are loved by God. His love leads us to repentance. As we repent, turning from our sinful ways to follow Him, He leads us to live righteously. After all, the Spirit will never lead you to sin.
Therein lies the secret to living a godly life. Be led by the Spirit. It’s a process of discovering how to recognize God’s voice and sense His presence. It’s the process of learning to live in loving community. It’s the process of letting God gently lead you into the fullness of maturity in Christ.
The world tempts you to waste your life pursuing things that perish. Pursue things of eternal value. And in so doing, God will provide you with everything you need in this life. That’s the God’s honest truth.
Be patient in the process. God will complete the good work He began in you. Don’t wallow in shame and guilt if you got derailed somewhere along the path. None of us walk in perfect unity with the Spirit all of the time. Simply confess your sins and get back on the path of eternal life. God loves you too much to let you fail permanently. Trust Jesus and follow Him into the Kingdom which cannot be shaken. Blessings and peace to you. Amen.
Father in Heaven, give us patience in the process. Help us to be joyful in all circumstances. Amen.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Matthew 6:34 NLT
