Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
“But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”
John 8:31-36 NLT
If you remain faithful to the teachings of Christ, you will know the truth, experientially. Jesus is the Truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. You will know God. And God will set you free from sin.
Sin is disobedience of God’s will. If you don’t know God’s will, how can you obey it? Hence, we are all born into sin. We are all born ignorant. You cannot free yourself from this ignorance. You don’t know what you don’t know. Only God can free you from sin by revealing Himself to you by the work of the Holy Spirit as you hear and believe the Gospel.
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin. It reveals to us the error of our ways. Jesus sets us free. He is the way to the Father. No one comes to the Father except through Him. Jesus is the Door to eternal life.
Faith is the key.
When we are born again by faith in Jesus, by the grace of God, the Holy Spirit comes into us and gives us new life and a restored relationship with our Heavenly Father.
We live by faith. We walk by faith. To know God is to live forever. To walk with Him, is to be in constant fellowship with Him. To know Him is enough. To walk with Him is the fullness of joy. Let His Spirit lead you in all areas of life. He is the Lord. His ways are better.
Father, thank You for setting us free from sin. Thank You for revealing Your heart and Your will to us. Thank You for the Holy Spirit which teaches us all the things You taught and empowers us to obey Your will. May we always walk with You in peace, love and joy. Amen.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalms 139:23-24 NLT
