Victorious In Christ

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57 NLT

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Romans 8:37 NLT

Yesterday evening, during the Online School of Prayer, we learned about recognizing and interceding for those suffering with a victim mentality. As Julie shared her insights, I recognized that I had struggled with that erroneous thinking pattern for many years for a variety of reasons. But thanks be to God, I no longer do.

After the teaching time, we entered Zoom breakout rooms to practice applying what we had just learned. I prayed and asked God if I needed to ask for healing prayer. He said no. That somewhat surprised me because the topic stirred up many memories from my past. Thankfully, through forgiveness and the confession of sin, my mind had been renewed to believe the truth of what God says as opposed to the lies of the enemy.

God always knows the end from the beginning. We can trust what He reveals to us. As we sat together silently for a moment, God stirred someone to seek prayer on the topic. It’s not my place to disclose what was shared in confidence. All I can say is what the Lord spoke to me directly.

As Calvin was facilitating the prayer time with the other gentleman, I heard the Spirit of the Lord whisper to my spirit. He said, “Defeat is a lie. That is not your identity.”

“Your true identity is victorious in Christ.”

These are not thoughts that originated with me. That’s not how I talk or think. Yet, when the Lord communicates with me through the still, small voice, His words are brief and straight to the heart of the matter.

I simply share what I hear without expounding or explaining. I’m just the messenger. The message I hear from God is for the intended audience. He uses my voice to speak to people’s hearts. I take no credit for what God does through me. I’m just blessed to be a blessing. I’m a vessel for Him to do with as He chooses.

I believe all believers should know their true identity in Christ. Everything we do and say is filtered through our perceived identity. Am I a victim? I’ll act that way. Am I an overcomer? I’ll manifest that. What you believe to be true influences everything you think, speak and do. Therefore, renew your mind with the truth of God’s Word for best results.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2 NLT

Those words, victorious in Christ, stuck with me and ministered to those who were present. I encourage you to look at Scriptures about victory. Read them and believe them. If you have trouble accepting them as true, ask God to help you with your unbelief. He will.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4 NLT

Let’s pray and then seize the day.

Lord, everything You say is true. You are the living incarnation of Truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and our Comforter. Forgive us for looking for comfort in other places besides You. Forgive us for believing the subtle lies of the enemy which deceive and derail us. Renew our minds with the truth. Help us to boldly declare and live out the truth in our mortal lives here on Earth. Thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. We love You, Lord. Amen.

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
