There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1 NKJV
The sons of God are being revealed. They do not walk according to the flesh. They are in Christ. They walk in fellowship and communion with the Holy Spirit.
…and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:8 NASB2020
Faith is believing God at His Word. You can’t follow God if you don’t believe He can talk to you. Without faith it is impossible to please God, because you’re cutting yourself off from Christ, from having a relationship with your Creator God.
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Romans 8:5-6 NLT
Let the Holy Spirit lead you in all things.
This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t. Those who are under the control of the corrupt nature can’t please God. But if God’s Spirit lives in you, you are under the control of your spiritual nature, not your corrupt nature. Whoever doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ doesn’t belong to him.
Romans 8:7-9 GW
Because of what Christ did on our behalf, we are under no obligation to live according to our sinful nature. To do so would be unwise to say the least.
We are maturing into the fullness of Christ. We’re being conformed to the image and likeness of God. We already have the image, we’re human beings, just like Jesus. We’re being formed into the likeness – Christlikeness – of God, the divine nature.
Knowing who you are and what God is doing will help you maintain a peaceful attitude during the storms of life.
The Spirit leads the sons of God.
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God.
Romans 8:14 NASB2020
Sonship is not just for men. It’s for the Bride of Christ.
Lord God in Heaven, we submit to Your plans. Amen.
