I Wash You

‭‭“No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”

John 13:8 NLT‬‬

Washing cleanses the body.

Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins.

‭‭Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts of the Apostles 2:38 NLT‬‬

Once we’re saved, are we perfect? Do we never sin once we choose to follow Jesus? Come on, who are we kidding? Even Peter denied Christ. All the sheep were scattered. Everyone of us will turn from walking in the love of God from time to time. The difference is, we don’t make it a habitual part of our lifestyle.

We call such sins worldliness. Worldliness means being like the world. Godliness means being like God. God is love.

“‭‭I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”

John 13:15 NLT‬‬

Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. He removed the stains of worldliness from them. Worldliness stains our bodies and our minds. If you spend any time interfacing with this wicked and perverted generation, you might pick up some of their habits and ways of thinking. The Word of God will effectively remove those stains.

Sometimes we can’t see ourselves accurately. That’s why you need a fellow disciple to walk with you.

The Golden Rule is do as you would have done to you. Jesus kicked it up a notch. He said, “Do as I have done to you.”

Love like Jesus.

The King of Heaven and Earth took the form of a humble servant. He laid down His life for His friends. He demonstrated how we are to live and love in this temporary world.

Don’t get caught up in this world. Get caught up in Him.

Father God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus of Nazareth, as the sacrificial Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Thank You for setting us free from the law of sin and death. We repent of our sins today. Wash away our guilt and shame and the consequences of our sins. Bless everyone who we have sinned against. Forgive everyone who has sinned against us. Restore us to right relationship with You and Your Children. In the Mighty Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

‭‭Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
