Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies!
Psalms 34:12-13 NLT
There’s a simple truth that everyone needs to understand. The words we speak reveal what’s in our hearts.
“A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”
Matthew 12:33-37 NLT
What kind of tree do you choose to identify as?
Good trees speak blessing. Bad trees speak cursing.
The overflow of the heart comes babbling like a brook out of the mouth. Is the water bitter or sweet?
We are conduits of the spiritual world. We partner with whatever spirit is speaking through us whether we are consciously aware of it or not.
God cannot lie. The evil one only lies.
“For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
John 8:44 NLT
The time has come for us to consider our words. What are we saying? Why are we saying it? Who does it serve?
I’m choosing to identify as an oak of righteousness. Therefore, all the unfruitful branches must be pruned away. The Father is the Master Gardener. We simply abide in love, letting our roots sink deep into Him for the nourishment that the Holy Spirit provides. He does the rest. He transforms our hearts. He gives us the words to speak. The voice of the enemy fades into the dust. We shake the dust from our feet and soldier on.
Father in Heaven, forgive us for speaking out of turn. Forgive us for partnering with the enemy and speaking evil to one another and about one another. We confess that we have used our tongues not to bless but to curse. Remove this charge against us and let us only speak what is right, pure, holy and true. Let our words be blessings soaked in the Love of God. Let the Holy Spirit speak through the Body of Christ. Forever silence the enemy in our lives. Let us ignore all unfruitful words. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, with plants springing up everywhere.
