Go & Sin No More

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

John 8:34‭-‬36 NASB

Chapter 8 of the Gospel of John begins with the story of the woman caught in adultery.

She was caught in the act. The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought her to Jesus to test Him. The Law of Moses says she should be stoned to death.

What does Jesus say? Whoever is without sin should cast the first stone.

Who is sinless? Only Jesus.

And what does Jesus do? He provides mercy and grace. He doesn’t condemn her. He chooses not to kill her.

Instead, He says, “Go and sin no more.”

God is gracious and merciful.

Jesus frees us not only from the penalty of sin, but He also frees us from slavery to sin. He also frees us from slavery to religious legalism.

That’s why it’s best to be yoked to Jesus constantly. To be led by the Spirit is to walk with God. The Holy Spirit leads us and empowers us to live the victorious life in Christ. We are no longer compelled to be sinners. Now, go and sin no more, and glorify God.

Father in Heaven, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to rescue the world from the penalty and power of sin. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to give us new life and victory over the evil one. Forgive us of all our sins and lead us to do Your will, today and everyday. Amen.

‭Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”

“No, Lord,” she said.

And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
