Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
Galatians 5:25 NLT
It’s what we focus on that determines the course of our lives. You can focus on the Spirit, or you can focus on the flesh.
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
Galatians 5:16-18 NLT
The Spirit will lead us to do good, the flesh will lead us to do evil. We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us so we are under no obligation to the Law or the flesh. Our only obligation is to love one another.
God does not leave us helpless when we place our faith and trust in Him. He gives us the power to overcome the flesh, the world and all the powers of darkness. We become a part of Him and His big plan of redemption for the human race.
God’s going to create a new heaven and a new earth and we will live with Him forever. There will be no more sin, no more death, no more suffering. It will be absolute Paradise for all eternity. Certainly something to look forward to during the difficult in-between times.
So what do we do in the meantime?
Focus on the Spirit. He will lead you into all truth. He will tell you everything that Jesus is saying to you. He will give you special abilities, spiritual gifts, that allow you to help other people.
Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this.
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.
There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.
God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
1 Corinthians 12:1, 4-7 NLT
There’s no shortage of information and training available on walking in the Spirit. The trouble is most people aren’t aware that it’s an option and don’t know anyone who is living that way. If you can’t find a good example, be one!
The resources created by the Ministry Training Network are specifically designed to help you hear from God, activate your gifts, and live out your calling. I highly recommend them and use what I’ve learned from them everyday!
Father in Heaven, let the things of this world grow strangely dim. May they have no hold or sway on our hearts. May the voice of the Holy Spirit resound clearly in our minds. May our hearts be quick to obey Your leading. May we glorify Your Name and do Your will everyday all-day until Jesus comes back again to make all things right. In Your Name we pray. Amen.
But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
