Jesus replied to him, “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’”
Luke 4:8 NASB2020
Be on alert. Your adversary is looking for someone to devour.
The devil tries to tempt us into serving him instead of the Lord. He attempts to exploit our carnal desires for worldly wealth, power and glory in order to enslave us to sin.
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 NLT
The lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life have taken many down the road to destruction. There’s nothing new under the sun.
Therefore, offer your bodies completely as living sacrifices — holy and pleasing to the Lord. This is the acceptable way to worship the Lord.
Crucify your flesh as He did.
He sacrificed His life to redeem ours. Everything in Creation exists because of Him and for Him. Isn’t it time we aligned ourselves wholeheartedly with God’s will? Isn’t it time we live for the Kingdom and not this temporary world?
We all have a choice to make. Who will you worship? Who will you serve?
Let’s do what Jesus did. Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. There’s eternal life in walking the narrow path. Everything else is destined for the fire.
Father in Heaven, forgive us for being distracted by the cares of this world and the things of this world. Help us to realize all these things are temporary and meaningless compared to the incomparable worth of knowing You and being with You forever. Help us to walk with You with humble hearts enjoying the constant company of the Holy Spirit. Give us strength when we are weak to resist the devil and bring glory to Your Name. May we live to glorify God and no other. Amen.
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice — the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
