Pacify

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.

Romans 12:18 NET

To pacify means to make peace.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”

Matthew 5:9 NASB2020

The opposite of pacify is to quarrel.

A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.

2 Timothy 2:24 NLT

Do you prefer peace or strife?

If you prefer peace, work for peace. Comfort one another with the Word of God. Encourage one another with the Good News. Build one another up in love.

If you prefer strife, create and magnify conflict. The world provides plenty of examples of how to do this. It’s not very enjoyable and creates separation between people instead of bringing them together.

We are each responsible for our own thoughts, words and actions. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Whatever we treasure in our hearts will be evident in the words we speak and the things we do.

Cultivate a quiet and peaceful heart and you will become a peacemaker. There’s no better way to do that in my mind than reading, studying and meditating upon the written Word of God. Saturate your mind with truth.

When you are at peace and rest, it’s evident. It’s contagious. The opposite is also true.

Father in Heaven, may we find our rest in You. Let Your Word saturate our minds so that our bodies would be living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to You. Let us be peacemakers. Let us be called the sons of God. Lord, manifest Yourself in Your People, called by Your Name. Let us be the mature children of God. Let the Christ in us shine forth for the whole world to see. Amen.

But have nothing to do with foolish and ignorant speculations [useless disputes over unedifying, stupid controversies], since you know that they produce strife and give birth to quarrels.
