For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 NLT
The tradition of celebrating Christmas is a time for people to remember the birth of the Savior. That happened a couple thousand years ago.
What’s Christ up to currently? He’s no longer a baby. He’s fully grown, resurrected from the dead, glorified and ascended into Heaven where He intercedes for us day and night.
His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
Isaiah 9:7 NLT
God’s Kingdom is eternal and it is ruled by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The absolute ruler of the universe is the Lord Jesus.
When we surrender our lives to God and allow Him to be our Lord, we follow Him and do His will. We still have free will, we just use it to choose His will.
He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
2 Corinthians 5:15 NLT
The Good News is that Christ was born of a virgin, proving He was the Son of God. He lived a sinless life, was crucified, died, and buried. On the third day, He rose from the dead. He was seen by many witnesses. Then He ascended into Heaven where He remains until His imminent return to judge the living and the dead.
Given that He knows everything and has all power, it’s logical to want to know His will and carry it out. The Holy Spirit and the Bible can teach us everything we need to know.
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice — the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2 NLT
God’s will is good. God’s will is perfect. His Kingdom will never end. Keep your eyes on the Kingdom and you will not fall into sin.
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins — and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
1 John 2:1-2 NLT
This Christmas, let’s remember Christ our Savior and thank Him for rescuing us from the penalty and power of sin. And then, let’s do God’s will: love one another.
And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.
1 John 2:3 NLT
Father in Heaven, we thank You for sending the Lord Jesus to atone for the sins of the world. We thank You that You sent the Holy Spirit to give us new life. We thank You that we can know You and hear Your voice in our hearts. We surrender our lives afresh today to be used to bring this Good News to others and to live lives of love, being generous to share what You have given us with others. May we be a good witness in this world and testify to the goodness of God all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
John 13:34-35 NLT
