“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10 ESV
The Lord spoke to me this morning, in the still and quiet place of rest, He said, “Never hurry.”
Recently, He also said, “Take your time.”
The opposite of rushing around, acting impulsively, and always being busy, is to stop and rest. It takes trust in the sovereignty of God to cease from our labors and worship the Lord.
God wants us to stop being in a hurry. He wants us to slow down. There’s no urgency to do anything except abide in the Presence of God.
Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, and he who hurries with his feet [acting impulsively and proceeding without caution or analyzing the consequences] sins (misses the mark).
Proverbs 19:2 AMP
In God’s Presence is the fullness of joy. The joy of the Lord is our strength. The Lord is our salvation. The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy and peace.
Be a fruit inspector.
Examine your lives for yourselves.
Don’t judge one another. Encourage one another to slow down and spend quality time alone with the Lord. Spend quality time together sharing what the Lord has given you. Rejoice in the Lord always.
The world wants you to be in a hurry. It wants you to be anxious and depressed. It wants you to never be satisfied so that you’ll just buy and consume more worldly things.
God wants you to rest. There is safety in slowing down. You’re more aware of His voice, His heart, His intentions. You won’t be misled by the evil one if you never leave the Presence of the Holy One.
Abiding in joy, abiding in love, abiding in peace, these are the marks of those who are led by the Holy Spirit.
Let the Spirit guide your lives and you won’t do what your sinful nature craves.
Reflection Questions
- Where have I been hasty lately? What has been the fruit?
- How can I slow down? What worldly things can I forsake to spend more time with God?
- Where is God leading me? What adjustments do I need to make to obey the leading of the Spirit?
Father in Heaven, forgive me for acting hastily. Forgive me for being quick to speak and slow to listen. Grow the fruit of the Spirit in my life called self-control. Forgive me for being in a hurry and not submitting myself totally to Your will. Thank You for the free forgiveness provided through Christ’s sacrifice. Cleanse me from within. Give me Your heart and Your mind and renew my strength. May I always live to give You glory. Amen.
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
