Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:46-47 NASB2020
Day by day, we live this new life given to us by the Lord.
Day by day, the Lord refreshes us with His Presence and renews our minds with His Word.
Day by day, we live and move and have our being in Him.
Day by day, we love and are loved.
The early Church, birthed by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, had one mind and one heart. Daily, they met in the temple courtyards. Daily, they gathered in private homes to share the Lord’s supper and meals together. Daily, the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Let’s be about our Father’s business. Let’s prioritize God’s will over our own selfish ambition and comfort. Let’s give Jesus the proper place He deserves in our lives.
It is God’s will that we gather in homes. There’s nothing wrong with gathering together in larger numbers in buildings where nobody lives. But the closeness, the intimacy, and the trust that develop by gathering in homes cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Sharing a meal usually means that you’re not dining with your enemies. Enjoying the simple, daily pleasures of life with our brothers and sisters in the faith nourishes the roots of our relationship with God and each other.
It takes daily routines to live life. So much of our discipleship in the Western world focuses on our own individual spiritual disciplines. There’s nothing wrong with having a solid, close, personal walk with God.
It’s the next step where we usually stumble. How do we pass it on?
I propose that we go home to church. Being the Church means being called out from worldly living and dedicating ourselves to the Lord’s service. What better way to practice and reinforce the ways of this new life than with other dedicated believers in our own homes on a daily basis?
In home meetings, you’re free to be led by the Holy Spirit. We simply gather and be. Love one another. Pray for one another. Encourage one another. Let the Spirit of Christ move you to be who you are with each other. Manifest your spiritual gifts in service to the Body.
They say that home is where the heart is. If we can’t be the Church at home, how will we ever reach the world? New believers need a new family to belong to on a daily basis.
Prayer Points
- Seek God’s will on who He wants you to meet with more frequently.
- Ask God to open up more home fellowships for people to gather, share meals, take communion and be the church together.
- Ask God who He wants you to encourage in their faith today. Then obey Him.
Father in Heaven, thank You for rescuing us and redeeming us. Thank You for the Holy Spirit which gives us new life. May we walk in newness of life this day and forevermore. Amen.
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
