“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”
Matthew 6:24 NLT
What needs to be done today? What’s on the agenda? The answer depends on who’s your master.
If sin is your master, whatever enslaves you will be setting your agenda.
If greed is your cherished sin, you’ll let the pursuit of riches be in charge of your agenda. If lust is your sin of choice, pursuing sexual immorality will set the agenda. You get the idea, you’re a slave to whatever controls you.
If God is your master, sin loses its power to control you. Christ sets us free from the power of sin.
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
Romans 6:14 NLT
God’s grace is a free gift, you don’t earn it nor deserve it. He freely bestows His grace on us because He loves us. His grace sets us free from the penalty for sin and gives us the strength to resist the temptation to sin.
Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!
Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.
Romans 6:15-16 NLT
Everyday we have a choice. Will we choose to obey God? Or will we rebel against Our Loving Heavenly Father’s plan?
The Master’s agenda is just right for today. When we yield ourselves to God’s plan, good things happen. When we’re selfish and do our own thing, we stray from the path of righteousness and the results are unfruitful.
Prayer Points
- Ask God what His will is for your life.
- Ask God what’s next on the agenda.
- Ask God how He feels about your progress.
Father in Heaven, we repent of self-centered and selfish living. Forgive us of all of our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Thank You for Your mercy. Give us more grace to resist the plans of the evil one. May we always live to give You glory. Amen.
They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.
It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.
