Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them.
James 1:9 NLT
God loves everyone. Rich, poor, somewhere in between? It doesn’t matter. There is no favoritism with God. He loves us because He created us and He’s our Father, not based on what we possess.
In fact, the poor are blessed in a way that few appreciate, except the poor. We understand our reliance on God for everything.
Those who are rich are often blind to the truth that everything came from God, everything belongs to God, and everything is meant to be used to serve God.
God wants us to love one another in the same way that He loves us — without partiality. We’re all God’s children. Everyone has a seat at the table in the Kingdom of God.
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
Matthew 5:3 NLT
God blesses the poor. God takes care of the poor. They are near and dear to His heart. Christ made Himself poor so that we could all be made rich. He emptied Himself so that we could all inherit eternal life.
Worldly people think an abundance of material possessions is a good thing. It just shows where their hearts are at.
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Matthew 6:19-21 NLT
Treasure souls, not money. If our desire is to abide in love towards the Father and His children, we will be generous with our time, talent and treasures. We will give where there’s a need.
If we’re selfish and self-centered lovers of money and self, we will hoard earthly things and become useless to our communities.
It is ignorance, fear and pride that make people think that there’s not enough to go around and that we’re all separate from each other. In the Kingdom of God, the King takes care of everyone and there is no lack.
Rejoice in whatever situation you find yourself. God has you there for a reason, even if it’s only for a season.
Prayer Points
- Ask God to supply all your needs.
- Thank God for being your provider.
- Ask God who He wants you to be more generous with in sharing your time, talent and treasures.
Father in Heaven, thank You for loving us. Thank You for providing us with everything we need. We pray that You will continue to provide everything that we need and will increase our ability to be generous to the poor. Let us not be conceited or selfish if God has given us the ability to gain wealth. Let us use our time here on Earth responsibly and serve the King and His children. Amen.
Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?
