If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 NLT
A strange thing happened to me this morning just after midnight. I think it was actually 12:48 AM if memory serves.
I woke up and felt like I needed to check my Bible app on my phone. There’s a verse of the day. I read it and it was Romans 10:9.*
Here’s the strange thing… When I got up later and looked at my Bible app again, the verse of the day was not Romans 10:9. Nor was Romans 10:9 a recent verse of the day. But I clearly remember reading it and meditating upon it as I went back to sleep.
I cannot explain what happened, but I experienced it.
What is the significance of this?
In fact, it says, “The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.”
And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:8-9 NLT
It’s the message that we preach. It’s the message that’s in our hearts and on our tongues.
I feel like God is stirring me up again to publicly proclaim the Gospel so that people can hear the Good News, respond in faith and be saved.
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Romans 10:14-15 NLT
We are made right with God by believing that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead.
Jesus paid the price to set us all free from sin and death. He rose from the dead to prove that He is the Son of God and Messiah. He lives forever to make intercession for us.
Do you believe?
Then declare it publicly. And keep on proclaiming it.
You will be saved.
“You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Deuteronomy 30:20 NLT
Recommended reading: Romans 10 and Deuteronomy 30.
*Update: I think I’ve solved the mystery! The local worship radio station sends out a verse of the day text at 8 AM every morning. This morning it was Romans 10:9. I must have fallen asleep after that and combined those two memories into one.
I find this quite humorous and humbling. I could take the whole post down but somehow I feel like it’s good for people to see that I make mistakes and own up to them.
