A Simple Rule of Life: Trust • Listen • Obey
This Rule of Life is not a checklist for spiritual achievement. It is a relational rhythm that helps us stay responsive to God as He forms us over time.
Jesus is our Shepherd. The Holy Spirit leads. We partner with God by trusting, listening, and obeying—day by day.
Daily Rhythm
Morning — Trust
Competence & Confidence
Purpose: To re-center your life under God’s leadership.
- Begin the day by acknowledging: God already has a plan.
- Read Scripture to anchor yourself in truth.
- Check in with the Holy Spirit and welcome His guidance.
- Pour out your heart in prayer while you’re still fresh—gratitude, concerns, needs, and hopes.
Guiding posture:
“I trust Your wisdom more than my own ambition.”
Throughout the Day — Listen
Compassion
Purpose: To remain attentive to God and people in real time.
- Stay aware of inner nudges, interruptions, or recurring thoughts.
- Pay attention to the emotional and spiritual needs around you.
- Ask simple questions like: “Holy Spirit, what are You doing right now?”
Guiding posture:
“I am present and paying attention.”
Evening — Obey, Then Rest
Character
Purpose: To respond faithfully and end the day in grace.
- Reflect with God on how you responded to His leading.
- Notice moments of obedience—especially the small ones.
- Journal it if that’s your thing.
- Blog it if you’re more like me.
- Release failures, receive grace, and rest.
Guiding posture:
“I have done what I could today. God is faithful.”
Weekly Rhythm
Once a week, take time to reflect more intentionally.
- Where am I growing in Competence in walking with God?
- Where is my Confidence in His leadership increasing?
- How is Compassion shaping my responses to others?
- What kind of Character is being formed through obedience?
Celebrate progress. Notice patterns. Adjust gently.
Formation Over Time: Training, Not Tension
This Rule of Life is training, not pressure.
Like martial arts, daily practice embeds the basics until they become instinctive:
- Trust becomes reflex.
- Listening becomes sensitivity.
- Obedience becomes responsiveness.
The repetition isn’t legalism—it’s formation.
Over time, this rhythm yields mastery of self, not through control, but through consistent partnership with God.
