Right The Ship

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Colossians 3:12‭-‬14 NLT

Scripture talks often about being clothed in Christ, or putting on the new man. We must put off the old man, or our old flesh driven nature. We must put on Christ, the true nature of who we are as Spirit born, Spirit filled and Spirit led believers in Jesus.

There’s a newness of life coming upon the Body of Christ at this moment. People are coming to their senses. What we’ve heard and what we’ve preached thousands of times has finally moved from our heads into our hearts. It’s time to take God seriously at His Word.

No longer can we feign belief in God and go on living like He doesn’t exist. That just won’t cut it anymore. Religious activity that is not led by the Spirit is dull and lifeless. Man’s agenda has failed to produce the fruit of keeping with repentance.

No longer can we wait for someone else to be a good example to follow. We must follow Christ, each and everyone of us.

Making disciples is not about cramming a bunch of information and doctrine into our heads. It’s about heart transformation. A transformed, or regenerate, heart will birth forth the actions that please God.

Dare I say it, we’ve gotten it all backwards in the modern American church. We create consumers instead of Jesus followers. I don’t want people being dependent on me to hear from God. I want to teach them to recognize God’s voice for themselves and then encourage them to obey.

I don’t have all the answers, but I know the One who does. He can help anyone with anything. The scope of our problems in society are so great that nothing less than divine intervention will right the ship.

And that’s where we can find peace in the midst of the storm. When we recognize that it’s God who has all the answers, we can simply trust, listen and obey on a daily basis and leave the results up to Him.

I’m seeing a renewed fervor to share the Good News among God’s people. People who were far from God are now searching for answers. The Holy Spirit is softening the hearts of worldly people to the point where they realize that everything they found pleasure in and put their hope in is failing to meet their expectations.

There’s no better time than now to go and make disciples. Pour new wine into new wineskins. The old cannot handle the new, it will burst their bubble. People who are satisfied with religion devoid of the Spirit will not be interested in the new. They’re happy with the way things were. They will resist the move of God in favor of being comfortable in their apathy.

God is love. Everything He does is birthed from compassion. Those who are abiding in the Spirit will be tenderhearted and show mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. That’s how you discern who is walking in the Spirit.

The Lord has told me that the next move of God will be harmony. How can you be sure you’re ready for what’s coming? Above all other things, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

As we surrender to God’s will, and allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit, God will knit everything together as He chooses. Love is the lifeblood of the Church. Without love, there is no church, only an empty shell.

God is love. His Spirit is truth. Love and truth, think on these things. Dwell on these things. Practice these things. And you will see revival. First, in your own heart. Then, in your family. Next, with your friends. Then, it will continue to radiate outward like a tsunami wave from an underwater earthquake. His love will overtake us, baptize us, and carry us to places we never imagined to be ambassadors of His love and His message. Christ compels us. Be clothed in Christ.

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.

John 13:34‭-‬35 NLT
